A comprehensive cardiac MR imaging examination for a cardiac mass consists of static morphologic images using fast spin-echo sequences, including single-shot techniques, with T1 and T2 weighting and fat suppression pulses as well as dynamic imaging with cine steady-state free precession techniques. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of MR imaging for evaluating suspected cardiac tumors or pericardiac masses involving the heart. Sixty-one patients with clinical or radiologic evidence of cardiac masses were imaged with ECG-gated MR at 1.5 T (22 patients) or 0.15 T (39 patients). Fifty-one patients had echocardiography previously. 2019-07-31 2015-02-01 2021-04-06 Cardiac MR imaging is the preferred method for assessment of cardiac masses. Awareness of the efficacy of MR imaging with regard to mediastinal mass characterization and judicious MR imaging utilization should further improve patient care. Key points The high soft tissue contrast of MR imaging enables superior tissue characterization of mediastinal masses, compared with computed tomography, and often increases diagnostic specificity.

Ten cardiac and paracardiac masses were studied with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate the utility of this new method for determining the nature, location, and extent of such masses. Cardiac tumors: assessment with Gd-DTPA enhanced MR imaging. Funari M(1), Fujita N, Peck WW, Higgins CB. Author information: (1)Department of Radiology, University of California, San Francisco 94143. Previous studies have shown the value of MR imaging for the identification of cardiac masses. 2020-01-10 The purpose of this article is to provide a current review of the spectrum of multidetector CT (MDCT) and MRI findings for a variety of cardiac neoplasms. In the diagnosis of cardiac tumors, the use of MDCT and MRI can help differentiate benign from malignant masses. Especially, the use of MDCT is a … 2005-01-01 Cardiac MR imaging is the preferred method for assessment of cardiac masses.

One of the main applications of cardiovascular MR imaging is the characterization of intra- and paracardiac masses with regard to localization, extent and tissue differentiation. Echocardiography, magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) are fundamental for the detection, characterization, and staging of cardiac masses as well as for planning their treatment.
